I. Alexandrov

Abstract

This communication presents the results of our own longlasting research on the issues related to patients` psychological problems and the assistance provided in the surgical clinic. It focuses on examining the specific feelings and manifestations of anxiety associated with surgical pro- cedures. The results obtained clarify the conceptual framework of that construct in the given environment. The methods used are validated. The study was carried out during the period from 2007 till 2010. Two-hundred-and-eighteen individuals were examined, of whom 136 men and 82 women. The following statistical methods were applied: descriptive statistics, Cronbach`s Alpha and correlation analysis. The results show that anxiety-related experiences of fear and uncertainty are caused by situations of risk and indefiniteness.
