Opportunities For Attracting And Retaining Blood Donors In The Regional Center For Transfusion Hematology - Varna

Abstract

Blood donation is a process of gratuitous blood donation by a donor. Blood products donated as a result of donation are crucial for the provision of health services.

Although the main goal of blood banks is to supply enough blood and blood components, they are struggling with their constant shortage, and the number of donors is declining, which requires the search for donors , using various methods.

The object of the present study are the blood donors in RCTH-Varna aged over 18 years, and the subject are their attitudes towards the incentives for blood donation and their attitude towards future donation.

The main goal is to study and analyze their attitudes and motivations, and on this basis outline appropriate measures and impacts to retain regular donors and attract new voluntary blood donors.

The following materials and methods were used: review of publications concerning blood donation, sociological method - anonymous survey conducted among 135 respondents, data from secondary sources, statistical methods.

questions in the survey are focused on the perceptions of the respondents related to donation, motivation for donation and their attitude in cases of mass trauma and ways to stimulate. The analysis of the results shows that more in-depth research on donor behavior is needed. The study shows that material incentives have nothing to do with the process of attracting donors, and the factors that are most strongly associated with blood donation are age, education, personal example and awareness. The main reasons for blood donation are helping relatives and conducting an action on a specific occasion. There is a lack of information regarding the entire process from donation to blood transfusion of the recipient.
