The Long Term Nursing Care In The Home Is An Important Factor In Meeting The Health Needs Of Patients

Abstract

Introduction: The population aging and increased morbidity are serious medico-social problems, leading to the expenditure of more funds for health care activities and medical care. Polymorbidity and limited motor activity make daily functioning difficult for elderly patients. Chronic pathology and difficulties related to meeting basic needs lead to deterioration of the quality of life. All this brings to the fore the importance of long-term nursing care in the home as an important factor in meeting the health needs of patients.  
Objective: The aim of the present study was to investigate the importance of long-term nursing care in the home as an important factor in meeting the health needs of patients.
Material and methods: An analysis of literature sources, a documentary method and an empirical sociological study are applied. The opinion of 160 patients treated in the Multispecialty Hospital for active treatment, in Clinics with a therapeutic and surgical orientation, was studied through a semi-structured individual sociological interview. Microsoft Office Excel 2013 software was used to create the graphs. Data were processed using the IBM SPSS Statistics statistical package 19.
Results and Discussion: The needs for long-term nursing care at home of the patients correlate with their age and number of illnesses. Respondents who confirm that they needed the care of a nurse were predominantly in the age group of over 70 years. As the number of illnesses increased, the need of long-term nursing care at home for the people included in the study increased as well.
Conclusions: The results of our study unequivocally prove that long-term nursing care in the patient's home has its importance as a leading factor in meeting the health needs of the majority of the studied patients. Age and polymorbidity have a significant impact on these needs.
