Abstract

The main goal of this paper is to discuss the status of language variations in foreign language classes as part of sources for development of communicative competence. Sociolinguistic competence is what helps the students to use appropriately foreign language vocabulary and grammar forms outside the classroom and enriches the knowledge they possess. The knowledge of language registers will effect the student`s abilities to understand and use foreign language in different social and cultural contexts, taking into account the specific features of communicative situation. The observations here could be of relevance to teachers and teaching material developers working on improvement of students productive language skills.
