This paper deals with some aspects of the language for special purposes. It briefly presents the most important contributions, grounded on some existing definitions and overall understanding of the essence of the „specialized language`, also the characteristics and problems of the area. Based on a short historical overview of the related theories it focuses on some of the linguistic, communicative and educational peculiarities. The aim is to make a synthesis of the main theories and debates upon the issue of specialized languages.
