The article presents a topic of current interest in the field of today's foreign language teaching - the use of modern technologies. It focuses on the reasons for the interest in the new media, their influence on the development of not only language skills but also social, communicative and intercultural competence. The term "new media" and what is meant by it is discussed in detail, along with the advantages, possible risks of their use and their impact on the motivation of the students.
