The report presents opportunities for developing the communicative competence in foreign language (German) of the students majoring "Tourism" within their compulsory foreign language learning. Communicative competence is seen not only as an important didactic principle but also as one of the necessary conditions to conduct qualitative educational process. It also identifies the concept and essence of communicative competence, proposes criteria for the selection of topics and communication situations, as well as for editing study materials in order to increase the motivation and interactivity of the learners. In this connection, the emphasis is on the compilation of communicative tasks and their consecutive solving, taking into account the educational and qualification degree and the professional field of the students. Good practices of foreign language teaching are provided - didactical examples of communicative tasks after their effective implementation in the learning process.
