Introduction: In recent decades, the issue for the active involvement of the patients in the process of informed decision-making that concerns their own health has emerged as a significant and topical issue. In view of this, it is important to study the vision of the nurses, the doctors and the patients about the process of obtaining the informed consent of the patient.
Aim: The aim of this article is to investigate the opinion of the nurses, the physicians, the patients and the student nurses on the process of obtaining an informed consent process from the patient.
Materials and Methods: An analysis of literature was performed, using documentary and questionnaire methods. This paper examines the opinions of 290 graduate nurses trained at the MU - Varna and MU - Pleven, 320 nurses and 280 doctors working in the hospitals for active treatment in Varna, Dobrich, Ruse, Silistra and Shumen, and 360 patients treated in these hospitals. The survey was complete and conducted with graduate students in the period 2008 - 2014. Regarding the nurses, the doctors and the patients the survey was representative and conducted between 2010 - 2014.
Results and Discussion: A significant part of the four groups of respondents determined the process of obtaining informed consent as a process of active interaction and cooperation with the patients and their relatives based on mutual trust prior to each medical intervention. The majority of the students and the nurses, approximately half of the doctors and one third of the patients believe that all five elements are important in the process of informed consent.
Conclusion: All participants in the informed consent process are aware of its essence and the importance of its core elements. This is an essential guarantee for its effective implementation and the achievement of truly informed patient consent.
