EFFECTS OF PROBIOTICS ON WOMEN'S HEALTH

Abstract

Introduction and Aim: Probiotics are digestive tract microorganisms that are beneficial to the health of their host when taken in adequate amounts. Microbiota is defined as a community of microorganisms found in a particular ecological place or environment. Microorganism flora of female reproductive system; It is very important in terms of reproductive health, pregnancy and newborn health. In this study, it was aimed to examine the effects of probiotics on women's health.

Material and methods: The potential benefits of probiotics have been a subject of intense study in recent years, especially due to the regulatory role they play on the gastro-intestinal and genito-urinary commensal flora. In this study, studies examining the effects of probiotics on women's health were evaluated.

Results and discussion: It has been determined that the use of probiotics is effective in preventing the negative consequences of pregnancy complications. Moreover; There are many studies showing that it is effective in improving glycemic control as well as reducing the risk of developing gestational diabetes. Probiotics are also thought to have an important role in obesity management. In the literature, it is stated that it has a protective role in preeclampsia, vaginal infections and allergic diseases. It is also supported by studies that its use in the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome is beneficial and may be effective in preventing the development of cervical cancer.

Conclusion: Probiotics have an important place on women's health. In order to protect and improve women's health, the level of knowledge of health professionals on the use of probiotics should be increased.
