Abstract
The study of the beginnings of Hippocratic medicine and the medical theories in the Hippocratic corpus is of great importance to the study of medicine and the medical humanities. The article examines for the first time in Bulgaria the humoral theory presented in treatises of the Hippocratic corpus in the context of the general philosophical development in the V–IV centuries BC in Greece and as one of the theoretical bases for the creation of rational medicine. The task of the study is to analyze the ideas of the authors regarding the functioning of the four fluids in the human body and how they affect the body in sickness and health. The knowledge and presentation of various ancient theoretical concepts enables a better understanding of the medical evolution and the epistemology of the healing art.
