In recent years, tennis has experienced a remarkable surge in popularity globally. Along with all who play the sport, millions of people watch tennis tournaments on their TV screens. Tennis is a widely popular sport in academia, and it enjoys significant popularity at the Medical University of Varna. Each semester, roughly 100 students choose to play tennis and are then assigned to a group of 8 to 10 players. Alongside the amateur player groups, the Varna Medical University boasts a competitive tennis team that actively participates in intercollegiate sports competitions. Since 2016, the university’s competitive tennis team has achieved numerous accolades – it has been a consistent winner at the Varna Universiade and has participated regularly at the National Universiade. Furthermore, the team has competed annually at the beach tennis tournament, part of the Summer University Sports Games – Kranevo, where it has taken the podium each year. In addition to that, the competitive tennis team of Medical University – Varna has participated in some international student championships – Barcelona (2018) and Berlin (2019). As the coach of the competitive tennis team, my work falls in two main directions – technical-tactical and physical preparation. The success of the team in recent years has inspired us to undertake a study of the physical fitness of the student players. For the task, multiple tests for speed, strength, durability, flexibility, and agility were conducted. The analysis of students’ mobility provides a snapshot of their current physical abilities, which can be used as a basis for improving their training and preparation.
