Questionnaires Measuring The Impact Of Olfactory Dysfunction On Quality Of Life – A Mini Review

Abstract

Olfactory dysfunction is perceived as a symptom that affects cognition, perception, emotional state, and behaviour, and has a huge impact on the patient's quality of life. Diagnostic methods (olfactometry) can be divided into two groups - subjective olfactometry (olfactory tests) and objective olfactometry, including Electro-olfactogram (EOG), air-dilution olfactometry, Nasal endoscopy. The growing interest in olfactory-related quality of life (QoL) has led to the development of various instruments (questionnaires and scales) to measure olfactory disorders. The aim of this mini-review is to examine reliable and validated questionnaires used to assess the quality of life of patients with olfactory dysfunction. Quality of life questionnaires are a valuable tool in clinical practice to assess and monitor the severity and impact of olfactory disorders in patients.
