The role of discipline in building resilience. A mediatory model for the influence of the strictness of order on the level of resilience in students at the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval University

Abstract

The  Naval Academy prepares future maritime professionals for the military and civilian fleets. It is important for future naval specialists to have good mental resilience, ensuring their ability to cope with the increased demands of the environment. The aim of the study is to track the impact of the environment – educational and military-educational – on the level of resilience, taking into account the impact of two main factors: strictness of order and positive relationships. It is considered that the level of resilience develops in the learning process under the influence of the environment and its requirements. The derived mediator model shows the influence of discipline (strictness of order) on the level of resilience in students, refracting through the mediator positive relationships. The results obtained show that students in a military profile have a higher level of resilience. This can be explained by the increased demands of the environment in terms of discipline and subordination, which are successfully perceived by the cadets thanks to the established team functioning.
