Human papilloma virus (HPV) infection plays a crucial role in the etiopathogenesis of certain malignant and benign diseases not only of the genital tract but also of the oral cavity and pharynx. In the present survey, the basic epidemiological aspects of this infection reflected in selected foreign publications during the recent years were presented. Some characteristics of the combined oral and oropharyngeal as well as of the combined oral and genital HPV-infection were considered. Attention was paid to epidemiological peculiarities of the squamous-cell head and neck cancer and of the oropharyngeal cancer caused by HPV.
