Complications of parotid gland surgery and their treatment

K. Popov

Abstract

A lot has been written of the surgical techniques and oncological outcomes of parotid gland operations but few articles comment on the complications and their treatment. A summary of the literature has been compiled, with the author’s experience from the operations of over 250 patients included. The complications of parotid surgery can be classified as intra-operative and post-operative (early and late). The most frequently occurring complications are permanent or temporary facial palsy and Frey syndrome.
