We present our experience in the treatment of severe inflammatory disease of the head and neck in seventeen patients for ten-year period. In the concept of severe inflammatory diseases we include the cases with engagement of more than two anatomic spaces of the head and neck determinating severity score two and more by Flynn. The effectiveness of the surgical treatment in these patients and the usage of hyperbaric oxygenation in addition to the complex treatment is appreciated. Concluded is made that surgical treatment is still a leading method and other treatment modalities contribute to the rapid development of reparative processes, shortening the period of recovery of patients, but they are not an alternative.

Представен е опитът при лечението на тежко протичащи възпалителни заболявания в областта на главата и шията за десетгодишен период при седемнадесет болни. В понятието тежко протичащи възпалителни заболявания включваме случаите с ангажиране на повече от две анатомични ложи на главата и шията, определящи степен на тежест над втора по Flynn. Оценена е ефективността от прилагането на хирургичното лечение при тези болни, както и използването на хипербарна оксигенация като допълнение към комплексното лечение.
Направен е изводът, че хирургичното лечение си остава водещо и прилагането на други лечебни методи способстват за бързото развитие на репаративните процеси, съкращавайки периода на възстановяване на болните, но не са алтернатива.
