The authors carried out experimental investigations on 148 male albino rats, weighing from 150-200g, and distributed into 4 groups: group I - not thymektomized, group II- thymektomized, serving for control purposes; in group III - not thimectomized, and in group IV - thimektomized, myocarditis and arthritis was experimentall y induced by means of threefold injection of ß hemolytic streptococcus of group A, at dose 0,2 cс 1 billion suspension. I nall the animals, the changes in the erythrocyte sedimentation rate and in the peripheral blood picture are traced up in dynamics. The changes established in the erythrocyte sedimentation rate, blood picture and especially the reduction of the number of eosinophilis cells and small limphocytes are related to the reduced immunologis response in the thymectomized animals. In conclusion, the authors point out that the changes observed by them in the erithrocyte sedimentation rate and in the blood picture contribute for the clarification of the role played by the thimus in the immune reactiviti and pathogenesis of rheumatism.
