Based on personal experience with the treatment of 255 children with burns over the period 1961—1969, the author points out that burns in childhood run a heavier course. Some of the factors accounting for the greater severity of the condition, both age-related and ana- tomo-physiological, as well as the faetors connected with a number of social and psychological peculiarities of the children's age are also dealt with.
The main conclusion reached is that, regardless of the difficulties of diagnosting the severiry of burns in childhood, it is by all means possible as early as at the primary treatment of the burnt child, provided due consideration is given not only to factors as surface involved and depth, but also to all the remaining factors, determining the heaviness of the jesion in its complexity.
