Based on the experience had with 462 infectious hepatitis patients (moderate, severe and protracted forms) and 50 patients with mechanical jaundice (mainly of neoplastic nature), the authors analyze the differential diagnosis between the two affections, proceeding from laboratory data. The diagnostical significance of different laboratory tests is discussed with the same purpose. Two conventional paraclinical combinations are recommended for facilitating the differential diagnosis: number one to each newly admitted hepatitis patient, and number two - in cases doubtful for mechanic cholestasis.
