The calcium volume is investigated in 40 patients with nephrolithiasis with the aim to ascertain the role of increased uptake of calcium salts with potable water on the occurrence and course of renal calculus disease.
Besides calcemia and spontaneous calciuria, the patients of the series are subjected to „Са` charging according to the modified Howard method, in order to establish the activity of the parathyroid gland.
The results show that raised calcium uptake in healthy subjects does not account for changes in the serum sevel of „Са`, calciuria and parathyroid activity.
Patient with nephrolithiasis, complicated by pyelonephritis, display hypercalciuria and increased activity of the parathyroid gland.
The hypercalciuria and secondary hyperparathyroidism in patients with nephrolithiasis play a role of utmost importance for the occurrence and course of the affection.
