Studies are carried out to examine the curare effect of some aminopropanol products. Only erythro-2,3-diphenyl-3-trimethylamino 1-propanol-iodide possesses a curare effect in intravenous administration in doses of 9 mg/kg body weight, sensitizing at the same time the myoneural synapses on repeated administrations.
On the basis of studies carried out so far, this product is characterized as belonging to the group of pachycurare substances. Despite the fact that it possesses only one quarternary nitrogen, the authors relate the nondepolarizing mechanism of its curare effect with the presence of a phenyl radical in the side chain of its molecule.
