It is pointed out that tomography has not found yet wide application in laryngologieal practice. Its significance is particulary great in the detection of infiltratively growing tumors in regions inaccessible to laryngoscopic examination.
The possibilities also for functional diagnosis are emphasized.
Of a total of 43 observed cases 5 cases are discussed with various localization of cancer of the larynx and hypopharynx. It is emphasized that in almost half of the cases tomography reveals more details on the extent, the infiltration and necrosis of the tumor.
The possibilities of tomography being emphasized in the diagnosis of cancer of the larynx and the pharynx, the authors point out that diagnosis of „cancer of the larynx“ should not be made on the basis of tomographic data only, rather than upon a complex clinico-rentgenological examination.
