The problem of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in childhood engages the attention and is a serious challenge in pediatrics. Leading causes of its development in children are congenital anomalies of the urinary system, glomerulopathies and hereditary diseases. The algorithm of behavior in order to avoid complications and development of CKD includes timely diagnosis, treatment and adequate monitoring.
Good management of children at risk of developing CKD requires the following steps:
1. Antenatal and postnatal prophylaxis of congenital anomalies of the urinary system, where needed - appropriate treatment. Reaching out to families with inherited diseases and prophylaxis.
2. Screening for proteinuria and timely diagnosis of renal parenchymal disease.
3. Prevention of childhood obesity.
4. During the first stage of CKD, slowing the progression of the disease. Mandatory conditions are restrict-ed diet, conducting medical treatment and supervision.
CKD is a major health and social problem. The early disability of patients (since childhood) has its psychological and financial consequences for the child, its family and society. Prevention of this serious suffering leads to raising a healthy offspring.
