Music therapy - the alternative way to treat children with special needs

Abstract

Children with special needs are all children with learning difficulties and attention deficit, autism, and dyslexia. Standard methods for the treatment of these children have been established over the years, but experts in the field of speech therapy, psychology, neurology, psychiatry, ENT, occupational therapy and others create and develop new therapies. The aim of this publication is to reveal new possibilities of therapy for children with special needs. One of these new treatment options is named after its creator A. Tomatis and it is a method for stimulating the auditory processing. It is conducted by listening to psychoacoustically altered classical music, divided into 10 discs, with the help of Dolby headphones.

The therapy aims to improve listening and speaking skills, improve communication skills, increase the concentration during learning, the quality of reading and understanding, social skills and last but not least - confidence.

Caring for children with special needs is a current problem of increasing social and educational significance and the socialization of these children is in the hands of the family, the educators and the society as a whole.
