Oral malodor is an unpleasant multifactorial oral pathology with health and social implications. In more than eighty per cent of the patients who suffer from halitosis it is caused by oral pathology. The remaining percent of sufferers have systemic disorders. The exact mechanism of halitosis occurrence is not clear. A lot of
H. pylori-positive patients suffer from poor oral smell. Moreover, halitosis disappears with the elimination of the infection in 90-100%. In the case of eradication of
H. pilory, the complaints of halitosis are most success- fully resolved. It is possible that this microorganism, together with the other microbes that cause periodon- tal diseases, participates in the etiology of halitosis. Results show that the presence of H. pylori in the oral cavity may be more commonly associated with peri- odontitis and halitosis by inducing inflammation than by producing volatile sulphates.
Most results indicate that bad breath may result from H. pylori infection and can be considered as an indicator of this infection.
