Differences in perceiving the environment according to the resilience level

Rositsa Nedeva

Abstract

The specificity of the military and maritime profession imposes great demands on the cadets. Interesting is the question about what distinguishes the highly resilient (stable) personality when adopting the requirements of the environment. The study carried out among the cadets at the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy provided an answer to this question. The characteristics of the environment - normative basis,
strictness of order, accessibility, contradiction, prestige, isolation, load, satisfaction, obsession and protection, and their perception by the cadets with a high level of resilience. The results obtained show statistically significant differences in the perception of the following characteristics of the environment: prestige, satisfaction, safety and obedience in the subjects with normal and high personal resistance. Highly resilient individuals appreciate the environment as being more prestigious and capable of satisfying existing needs as compared to normal resilience individuals. Highly resilient individuals perceive the environment in which they study and work as protecting them from adverse external influences, but not restricting their right to choose to remain in or leave the environment. The study allows for better prognosis of the level of satisfaction from the chosen profession and the future career in the Navy.
