Midwifery care is an essential factor on which the optimal postpartum course depends. Among the main professional competencies of the midwife in the post-natal period are medical and health care for mother and newborn children; training in breastfeeding and lactation; conducting trial breastfeeding; counseling the mother on newborn nutrition issues; and promotion of breastfeeding.
Breastfeeding is recommended by many international experts and organizations dealing with maternal and child health issues.
The purpose of this scientific report is to analyze the role of the midwife in overcoming breastfeeding difficulties.
An anonymous, panel, structured interview was conducted with women after birth (normal and operative delivery) at "Professor Stoyan Kirkovich" University Hospital in Stara Zagora, in June-July 2018.
For the purpose of the survey a special questionnaire was created. The authors place a criterion for inclusion in the study - women in the first 7 days after birth.
The results reveal maternal satisfaction with the received midwife care and support for first breastfeeding, the difficulties encountered in breastfeeding, and the maintenance of lactation.
