Introduction: In childhood, recurrent upper respiratory tract infections are the most common reason for visiting a general practitioner. (GP) The complexity and similarity in the symptoms of these infections are a challenge for their differentiation as well as for the selection of appropriate therapy.
Aim: The aim of this article is to present the diagnostic and therapeutic challenges for GPs related to recurrent upper respiratory tract infections in childhood.
Materials and Methods: Review of medical literature from recent years has been conducted.
Results: GPs need to be aware of the possibility of immune deficiency in children causing recurrent infections and to investigate this possibility, if necessary. Some of the upper respiratory tract infections, often treated surgically, also have good conservative treatments that, when applied in a timely manner, will lead to fewer relapses.
Conclusion: The multidisciplinary approach in the treatment of children with recurrent upper respiratory tract infections will reduce their episodes and improve the quality of life of these patients.
