A cervical rib is a congenital, localized anomaly that occurs in about 0.2–0.5% of the population. The cervical rib represents an extra rib that originates from the seventh, rarely the sixth, or fifth cervical vertebra. The majority of patients have no complaints and are unaware of the presence of the congenital anomaly. They find out about it when an X-ray is taken on another occasion. Some of the cases require surgical removal.
We present the case of a 36-year-old man who was admitted to the department of medical oncology and oncologic diseases. His initial diagnosis was melanoma malignum regio pectoralis dexter, but he was subsequently found to have cervical ribs after several imaging studies.
