Awareness And Education Of Patients With Type 2 Diabetes For Effective Blood Sugar Control

Yuliyana Georgieva

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus has serious socio-economic consequences for countries worldwide, due to its rapid spread, early disability and premature mortality. Insulin resistance is most often combined with overweight, a sedentary lifestyle and an aging population. The main components of effective diabetes management include adherence to established principles of nutrition, regular physical activity, blood sugar monitoring, adherence to pharmacological therapy, building and strengthening skills and habits for the prevention of chronic complications and strengthening healthy skills for coping and solving problems related to self-management of the disease. It is believed that effective training of patients in self-management of the disease will lead to better results in its control.

Objective: To study the awareness and training of patients with type 2 diabetes on methods for effective blood sugar control.

Methods: The method used in this study is a questionnaire.

Conclusions: Patients receive information about their disease from medical specialists upon diagnosis. One-third of patients are not trained in all methods of blood sugar control and are not familiar with the main components of effective diabetes management, including diet and physical activity. Lack of training delays the development of skills and habits that prevent frequent blood sugar variability and prevent chronic complications of diabetes.
