Digitalization is transforming healthcare by reshaping the way prevention, diagnostics, and patient care are delivered. In the context of pediatrics, digital technologies have the potential to enhance accessibility, efficiency, and personalization of care. However, their integration into practice requires a critical assessment and a systematic approach.
Purpose: This study aims to analyze the role and effectiveness of digital technologies in supporting child health, with a specific focus on their application in prevention, early diagnostics, monitoring, and therapeutic support. It seeks to identify major trends, benefits, and challenges, as well as opportunities for integrating digital solutions within the Bulgarian healthcare system.
Materials and Methods: The research was conducted through a systematic literature review covering international and national publications issued between 2018 and 2024. Sources were retrieved from PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar, as well as from official documents of the Bulgarian Ministry of Health, the National Center of Public Health and Analyses (NCPHA), and the Bulgarian Association for Personalized Medicine (BAPEMED). Qualitative and comparative analytical methods were applied to identify trends, differences, and best practices.
Results and Discussion: The analysis demonstrates that digital technologies are emerging as key drivers for improving accessibility, accuracy, and personalization of pediatric healthcare. Prevention and diagnostics are the most developed domains, while therapeutic support remains underexplored. International studies emphasize the significance of artificial intelligence and telemedicine, whereas the Bulgarian context is characterized by a limited empirical base and insufficient cross-sectoral coordination. The proposed model of Integrated Digital Child Health offers a conceptual framework for sustainable innovation, combining clinical, social, and technological dimensions.
Conclusion: The digitalization of child health represents a structural transformation of medical practice. Effective implementation of digital solutions requires a balanced interaction between innovation and humanity, as well as continuous dialogue among scientific institutions, healthcare professionals, and policymakers. Bulgaria is at an early but promising stage of this process, with key priorities including the development of research capacity, professional education, and a regulatory framework ensuring the safe and ethical use of digital technologies.
