Abstract
This article aims to present the specificities of specialised Spanish for tourism purposes and its teaching at university. It discusses the general characteristics of the language for specific purposes and, in particular, that of tourism. It analyses the target groups to which it is taught and the methods applied in the auditorium for its effective acquisition, which aim to bring students closer to their professional field, to prepare them for the needs of the market and to make them more confident in the different areas of the tourism industry. Among the main objectives of specialized language training are the acquisition of specialized vocabulary, the development of linguistic and communicative competences, the acquisition of socio–cultural skills – all of them of utmost importance in professional communication.
