Equalism and the average equality as dangers in art education

Siya Papazova

Abstract

There are certain dangers, which are currently arising in the education of young people in the field of art. They must be overcome. The first danger lies in ‘equalism’, in adhering only to 'normality'. The task of the educator is to educate the restless, the searching, the unconventional artist. The second danger lies in the interference of the consumer ideal in art. The young persons who have committed themselves to the artistic must recognize consumerism and resist it, not serve it.

Danger number three consists of the universal tolerance, an acute deficiency, a lack of ‘assertiveness’. In teaching, one's own point of view, one's own position, one's own view of the diversity of the world must be encouraged. Danger number four is structuralism, which comes into sharp contradiction with the purpose of art. It destroys the free initiative of artistic thinking. Danger number five: It is more than necessary for future artists to develop a sense of awareness as to when they are being used and turned into something to serve consumer taste.

The primary task of the art teacher is to humanize the young artist so that he or she can convey to people the experience, the meaning, the divine purpose of art.
