Introduction: This scientific article aims to summarize the causes of dental implant fracture after loading by reviewing the literature and presenting a clinical report.
Material and Methods: A literature review was performed using the PubMed database. This article also describes a case demonstrating the treatment of an implant fracture.
Results: Dental implants are used to treat partial and total edentulism. One of the late complications that may occur is fracture of the implant body. Conditions for the occurrence of such a complication are distal edentulous areas, implant size <3.75, Class 1 Ti implants, implant overload, bone loss leading to implant neck bending and material fatigue, parafunctions such as bruxism, mismatch between the base and implant, implant located in the distal area, partial edentulism—distal area, design of the connection between the base and the implant, hanging bodies of the restorative prosthetic construction, manufacturing defects of the dental implant, loading of the implant along its longitudinal axis.
Conclusion: There are various factors and conditions that may lead to fracture of the implant body. Dental doctors should understand in detail all the factors and search for their presence.
