Prognostic factors in otosurgery

P. Rouev

Abstract

Background: The factors that predict the outcome of the disease are an important aspect in modern medicine. Their application in otosurgery is mandatory in the preoperative period in view of the patients’ expectations and the level of the quality of life after the surgical intervention.
Methods and Results: We use Bellucci’s classification, Wullstein’s classification, Austin-Kartush’s classification, Ossiculoplasty Outcome Parameter Staging (OOPS), Middle Ear Risk Index (MERI), STAM system to predict outcomes of otosurgical interventions.
Conclusions: We have made an attempt to summarize the prognostic factors we apply in otosurgery and in particular in cholesteatoma surgery.
