Component nasal hump reduction application – a retrospective review

D. Yankov

Abstract

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to present our results of a series of rhinoplasties on patients with different shapes of osseocartilagenous hump, after component reduction technique application.
Material and Method: Between 2006 and 2010, we applied component hump reduction on 78 patients (67 females and 11 males). Of this group, 61 patients were admitted for congenital deformities, 17 patients – for posttraumatic deformities of the nose. Open approach has been used in 57 patients, closed – in 21. Apart the hump reduction, all the patients underwent additional surgery on other parts of the nose. On 26 patients was performed septoplasty, because of accompanying deviation.
Results: The follow-up period was between 1 month and 2 years (mean time – 11months). The aesthetic result was estimated as follows: very good – in 85% of the cases; good – 12%; unsatisfactory – 3%. Of the group, 74 patients (95%) breathe normal after the surgery and Cottle test is positive in 9 (11%).
Conclusions: The analysis of our results of the application of component reduction technique, confirms that the method is effective and adaptable, with low risk of aesthetic and functional complications.
