The binder syndrome: review of the literature and case report

Plamen Nedev

Abstract

Binder syndrome or maxillonasal dysplasia (nasomaxillary hypoplasia) is an uncommon developmental anomaly affecting primarily the anterior part of the maxilla and nasal complex. A 4-year-old boy with maxillonasal dysplasia (Binder's syndrome), featuring maxillary hypoplasia and relative mandibular prognathism, combined with acute leucosis. We review the literature and describe how 3-dimensional CT scanning was used to evaluate the facial morphology. The principal features, diagnosis and management of the syndrome are discussed.
