A report is made of 11 patients with large recurring ventral hernias, which have been operated on by means of a free transplantation of fascia lata. The method which is described consists in the following: the fascial flap is partially dissected - in the form of the letter H, and is then fixed to the upper pole of the defect, both its arms being crossed by previously prepared and symmetrically located openings of the fibrous edges, adjacent to the corresponding muscles. The patients are followed up for 3 months to 2 years. In only one of them suppuration and partial relapses were observed.
The view is upheld that of all types of plastics the fascial one is a most biological one.
