Electronic platform for purchasing medicines for hospitals - a new challenge for the pharmacists

Abstract

The implementation of electronic tenders for centralized hospitals` provision with medicines and medical devices is an established practice that successfully entered also in Bulgaria. The idea of setting up a special body for public procurement in the Healthcare sector and using information technology to optimize the delivery process arises as a result of analyzed defects and corrupt practices in the drug market. It is expected to solve economic, social and ethical problems in spending the public funds for health by using the electronic platform. Hospital pharmacists have a key role in overcoming the challenges of starting the electronic system and achieving a competitive and efficient market for medicines in our country.
