Gergana Nenova, Paraskeva Mancheva

Abstract

Treatment through movement has been known since antiquity and has proven its effect over the years. The term “kinesitherapy”, however, dates from modern times. From its inception until the development of its modern appearance, the terminology changes. In parallel with this we experience the formation of similar terms, such as remedial gymnastics, kinesiology, ergotherapy, etc. Modern kinesitherapy is oriented towards the recovery of the sick person and it originates from the positions of nervism and functional therapy. Nowadays, kinesitherapy is present in the scientific knowledge in the perimeter of prophylactic, restorative and health- supporting methods and means. The purpose of this study is to make a short historical overview of the development of treatment through movement and to present the modern position of kinesitherapy in Bulgaria.
