Social epidemiology of cutaneous melanoma

Ina Kobakova

Abstract

Cutaneous melanoma is a disease presenting with a rising medico-social significance worldwide. Epidemiological research in the recent several years reveal unfavourable trends related to the increasing incidence and mortality rates . There exist considerable differences concerning the geographic distribution of the disease as well as between the representatives of different races. Age-standardized (world standard) incidence rate in Bulgaria among males increases from 1,7 per 100000 in 1980 up to 3,8 per 100000 in 2013 while that among females - from 1,7 per 100000 in 1980 up to 3,3 per 100000 in 2013. Age-standardized (world standard) mortality rate in Bulgaria among males increases from 0,5 per 100000 in 1980 up to 1,6 per 100000 in 2013 while that among females - from 0,6 per 100000 in 1980 up to 1,0 per 100000 in 2013.
