Revascularization in acute limb arterial embolism

Rumen Runkov

Abstract

A retrospective analysis of the early and delayed revascularization of the extremities during the period between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2020 inclusive in St. Panteleymon Hospital of Yambol and in the Clinic of Vascular Surgery, Heart and Brain University Hospital of Burgas was carried out. A total of 117 patients at a mean age of 72.71 ± 9.11 years (range, 41 to 98 years) with arterial embolism of the extremities were operated on. It included 61 males at a mean age of 69.31 ± 7.43 years (range, 41 to 84 years) and 56 females at a mean age of 76.91 ± 8.04 years (range, 62 to 98 years). Early revascularization (prior to the tenth hour) was performed in 33 patients, late one by using of standard vascular accesses such as femoral, popliteal or cubital was done in 32 patients, and late one by using the same standard vascular accesses and distal accesses such as ankle or wrist ones in 52 patients. The primary accompanying diseases were ischemic heart disease, atrial fibrillation, and atherosclerotic myocardial sclerosis. The operative results obtained were very good. There were seven deceased patients (5.98% of the cases).
